![]() ![]() While out of state on vacation, I had to replace the transmission, front axle & front right brake caliper. I understand that after 2010, Nissan was suppose to have fixed problems with it's CVT transmissions, but in April of 2016, they offer extended warranties on 2014 to 2016 Nissan Rogues. I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue, with less than 90,000 miles. I'm told the repair will cost more than my car is worth. Thank God for the Toyota, it's all we have left. We are entering January 2020 and I needed my AWD to get me to my job in snow. ![]() I am stuck with a vehicle that I feel is going to get me killed. I should have at least 3 more yrs with this car and I am not in a position to have a car payment now. I have been driving my husbands 18 year old Toyota Tacoma with over 300,000 miles on it because it is safer and more reliable than my 7 year old Rogue with 100,000 miles. I have almost been hit a few times and have been terrified to drive it, especially since I started new job further away. This scenario has happened several more times in the past few years, anytime I have had to drive more than 1/2hr or over 40mph. At traffic lights it would not go when I pushed gas and took 10-15 seconds as I tried pumping gas a few times, for the transmission to finally engage and allow car to move. I drove over 200 miles on highway to visit family and car seemed to lose ability to go and climb hills, I pulled off highway for a pitstop. I mainly drive local at slow speeds so I think this is why it has taken time for failures to become regular and more apparent. They took off and I was unable to follow them because I pushed the gas and it just would not go. ![]() The 1st experience was when it was new - while driving in my neighborhood less than 20 mph, I had to stop abruptly because a car side swiped me. In fact, my husband blamed me for doing something wrong until it finally happened to him. The issue came on so randomly and gradual that we didn't associate it with a malfunction. You may be able to do the replacement yourself with a junkyard CVT and save some dough, but you definitely want to be sure you’re getting a really low-mile transmission.I purchased this new and while my car is now 7 years old, the problem has been happening since the beginning. He says it costs $3-4k to replace and there’s no rebuilding, so I stand corrected. Or, you can keep it at that point.Įdit 2: here’s a tear down of your transmission. If fixing it properly (rebuild tranny, fix TPMS, and repair driver’s door lock) will cost around $1500, then do that and you should be able to sell for around $4k, meaning you get out with a few not-so-expensive lessons learned. I’m guessing you can sell it in its current state for about 1500 - $2k, which will hopefully erase what you owe. How much will it cost to fix the CVT? Get a quote, or learn how to do it yourself (not impossible, maybe you can replace it with a junkyard one, or maybe you can rebuild it, these are all things you can do, look at YouTube videos). ![]() does anyone have any advice for this situation?ĭepending on the mileage, $4k is still the going price for any moderately decent automobile. but i’m not sure what the best option is. i’ve many people tell me to go to dealerships, put it on facebook, etc. i’ve stopped driving it, did some research and have decided i want to be done with this car. it also has a few smaller issues that i was aware of when i bought it: the driver’s side door locks randomly and the fob doesn’t work for that door, a scratch here and there, the tire pressure sensor is broken and is on at all times. i noticed the transmission was slipping after a couple months and got it serviced, which was a very temporary fix and within another month it began to jerk and shudder when changing gears. the man was selling it simply because his wife “just wanted a new car” and everything seemed fine with it for a few months. I (a 20 year old girl who knows nothing about cars) bought a used 2011 Nissan Rogue from Facebook Marketplace in spring of 2021 (i am not proud of this) for $4k with a loan.
